Profile
Zhao was first noticed by leading pros during his early teens when he played in exhibition matches and as a wild card at ranking events in China, and he was quickly earmarked as a potential superstar. Progression was slow during his early years on tour, then Zhao made his huge breakthrough at the 2021 UK Championship when he won his first ranking title, beating Luca Brecel in the final. A few months later he doubled his tally at the 2022 German Masters. And a truly historic achievement followed for Zhao at the 2025 World Championship when, age 28, he became the first Chinese player to conquer the Crucible, beating Mark Williams 18-12 in the final. The sky is now the limit for this outstanding talent known for his devastating long potting and break-building.
